Caribbean and Latin America Connections

Curaçao is a handy springboard: direct flights to Sint Maarten, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Colombia and beyond.

Thanks to its position just north of South America, Curaçao International Airport (CUR) has a surprising number of regional routes. If you have time, a second destination can turn a beach holiday into a bigger trip. Below are the main options from Curaçao in 2026; schedules shift by season, so always check current timetables on Trip.com or Omio.

Within the Caribbean

  • Aruba and Bonaire: frequent short flights by Divi Divi Air, Z Air and Winair. See ABC island hopping.
  • Sint Maarten: Winair and Z Air link Curaçao with Sint Maarten, another country in the Kingdom, which itself is a gateway to Saba, Sint Eustatius and Anguilla.
  • Dominican Republic: Arajet flies to Santo Domingo, opening up a large, varied country, and further low-cost connections.

Latin America

  • Panama City: Copa Airlines flies daily. Copa's hub connects to much of Central and South America, and Panama itself is worth a stopover.
  • Colombia: Avianca and Wingo fly to Bogotá; Medellín has had seasonal flights (Wingo, Z Air). Colombia pairs naturally with Curaçao: Cartagena's old town and the Caribbean coast are a short onward hop.
  • Peru: LATAM launched non-stop Lima flights in December 2025.
  • Suriname: Surinam Airways links Curaçao with Paramaribo, a popular combination for Dutch travellers.
Good to know: Venezuela is only about 65 km away, but flights have repeatedly been suspended and restored. Check your government's travel advice (for Dutch travellers: the Dutch foreign ministry) before considering any trip there.

Tips for combining trips

  • Many regional tickets are separate bookings. Leave buffer time before long-haul flights home, and carry travel insurance that covers delays.
  • Entry rules differ per country (e-visas, tourist cards, passport validity). Check each official source before booking.
  • Stay connected across borders with a regional eSIM.
  • Need a night in Willemstad between flights? Compare hotels near the centre, about 20 minutes from the airport.

More on arriving and leaving: getting to Curaçao and airport transfers.

Which combination suits you?

For culture and food, Colombia is the obvious partner: Bogotá and Medellín are lively cities, and Cartagena is a colonial gem on the coast. For more beach time, the Dominican Republic or Sint Maarten add very different islands. For a city stopover with a twist, Panama City pairs a modern skyline with the canal and the old quarter of Casco Viejo. Dutch travellers often enjoy Suriname for its familiar language and unfamiliar rainforest. Whatever you choose, give the second stop at least four nights.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fly directly from Curaçao to Colombia?

Yes. Avianca and Wingo fly to Bogotá, and there have been seasonal flights to Medellín. Check current schedules.

Is there a cruise or ferry to other Caribbean islands?

Many cruise ships call at Willemstad, but there are no scheduled passenger ferries to other islands; flying is the practical option.
